Goheung Buncheong Sagi National Contest to Be Held

Total Prize Money of 38 Million Won, From August 5 to 10

Jeonnam Goheung-gun (Governor Gong Young-min) Buncheong Culture Museum announced that it will hold the "7th Goheung Buncheong Ware National Contest," unveiling the contest guidelines and embarking on a journey to find the winners.

The contest theme is "Luxury & Buncheong," combining the word "Luxury," which refers to high-quality products recognized for their commercial value and brand value through long-term use among people, and "Buncheong," to invite submissions of high-level works.

The submission period is from August 5 to August 10, with physical submissions accepted only if received by 4 p.m. on the last day. Any interested adult may submit one work per person.

This contest will select and announce a total of 30 winning works based on the tradition of Goheung Buncheong Ware, evaluating completeness, creativity, expressiveness, artistry, and historicity.

The total prize money is 38 million KRW, with the grand prize winner receiving the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award and a prize of 10 million KRW; the Excellence Award receiving the National Heritage Administration Director Award; the Merit Award receiving the Jeollanam-do Governor Award; and the Encouragement to Honorable Mention awards receiving the Goheung-gun Governor Award along with prize money.

The selected winning works will be exhibited at the Goheung Buncheong Culture Museum from October 2024 to January 2025, aiming to enhance visitors' familiarity and awareness of Goheung’s ceramic culture.

A county official stated, "We are striving to provide opportunities for ceramic artists active in Korea and to spread Goheung’s ceramic culture, and we hope for the active interest and participation of ceramic artists."
