Exhibiting Various Themes Including Climate Change Response

An exhibition exploring the future of agriculture in line with advancements in agricultural technology and showcasing agricultural research and development (R&D) achievements that can be experienced in daily life will be held.

The Rural Development Administration (RDA) announced on the 5th that it will hold the '2024 Agricultural Technology Expo' from the 11th to the 14th at KINTEX Exhibition Hall 2 in Goyang City, in conjunction with the international event 'Seoul International Food Industry Exhibition.'

This year’s expo, themed 'Understanding Agriculture, Enjoying Technology,' aims to present a vision for future agriculture through science and technology and deliver agricultural R&D achievements in an easy and enjoyable way.

Additionally, the RDA, agricultural technology institutes from various provinces, the Korea Agricultural Technology Promotion Agency, and other domestic agricultural R&D institutions will participate to showcase the latest agricultural technologies and research outcomes. The expo will feature an opening ceremony, exhibitions, and side events aligned with the expo’s theme.

At the opening ceremony, various agricultural stakeholders including farmers, academia, and consumers will participate in a smart agriculture vision declaration. The event will present the RDA’s convergent research direction utilizing the latest technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT).

The exhibition space will be organized by participating institutions, including an agricultural R&D theme hall. Smart agriculture core technologies like AI and IoT will be implemented in spaces such as greenhouses, and familiar living spaces like kitchens (Today’s Table), living rooms, and convenience stores will be set up to display the RDA’s smart farm technologies, agricultural product exports, international technology cooperation, various research achievements, and RDA-developed varieties and technologies.

Exhibitions on diverse topics such as climate change response research, variety development and industrialization, agricultural mechanization, and eco-friendly research for both humans and animals will also be held. The expo is designed to help visitors easily understand and take interest in the main tasks of affiliated research institutes such as the Agricultural, Food, Horticulture & Special Crops, and Livestock Science Institutes. Regional R&D content and specialized crop research achievements from nine provincial agricultural technology institutes nationwide will also be exhibited.

Furthermore, various academic events discussing agricultural issues will be held, including an international strategy for the pet tech industry and an international symposium on agricultural by-product resource recycling technology. Side events such as a lifestyle horticulture (Idea Garden) contest and a patent technology marketplace will be organized. Online and offline events for general visitors will also take place.

Jo Jae-ho, Administrator of the RDA, said, "The 2024 Agricultural Technology Expo will be a meaningful occasion to see innovative technologies and achievements for the future of agriculture all in one place, and to glimpse the potential for enhancing agricultural competitiveness and sustainable rural development through smart agricultural technologies."

Meanwhile, the RDA will unveil a newly revamped institutional promotional symbol (characters) 'Isaki' and 'Saessaki' at this expo and conduct various planned events. An RDA official explained, "Isaki is a friendly personification of a hero whose strength comes from the rice ear growing above its head, symbolizing new life and vitality added to agriculture and rural areas. Saessaki is portrayed as a secret agent who helps Isaki sow the seeds of life in rural areas, encapsulating this worldview." Through Isaki and Saessaki, the RDA plans to strengthen two-way communication with the public, build a positive institutional image, and carry out effective promotional activities.
