Korea Cultural Information Service Signs MOU for Public Works Digital Transformation Project
The Korea Culture Information Service Agency (Director Hong Hee-kyung, hereinafter referred to as KCISA) and the Chungnam Culture and Tourism Foundation (CEO Seo Heung-sik, hereinafter referred to as the Foundation) announced that they signed a business agreement on the 8th at the Chungnam Culture and Tourism Foundation to build and publicly open high-resolution digital video and photographic materials of Chungnam’s marine natural heritage and fisheries heritage.
This business agreement is a collaboration between the two organizations to record and open Chungcheongnam-do’s marine natural heritage and fisheries heritage as high-quality digital materials through KCISA’s ‘2024 Public Works Digital Conversion Construction Project,’ enabling the public to use them safely without concerns about copyright infringement.
Through this agreement, KCISA and the Foundation plan to build and open high-quality, safe public works that widely promote and utilize the value of Chungnam’s pristine marine natural heritage and traditional fisheries heritage. Through this digital conversion construction project, high-resolution videos and photos of 14 marine natural heritage sites in Chungnam, including Taean Sinduri Coastal Sand Dunes (Natural Monument), Seocheon Mudflat Windbreak Forest, and five types of traditional fisheries heritage such as mudflat fishing (National Intangible Cultural Heritage), fish traps, and fish caves will be produced and opened to the public.
Considering the damage to marine nature caused by indiscriminate development and environmental pollution, as well as the extinction risk of traditional fishing methods due to the rapid aging of fishing villages, this project is significant in digitally recording heritage with high preservation value as historical and cultural materials. Furthermore, by opening high-quality video and photo content with strong private sector demand, it is expected to raise awareness of Chungnam’s natural and cultural heritage and contribute to regional economic and tourism revitalization.
KCISA Director Hong Hee-kyung stated, "KCISA continuously discovers public works of UNESCO World Cultural/Natural Heritage and city/province-designated cultural properties by collaborating not only with national and public institutions but also with local government-affiliated organizations," adding, "We will support the opening of more diverse public works to the public through this project."

As a specialized institution for cultural digital conversion, KCISA supports the production of high value-added public works through the ‘Public Works Digital Conversion Construction’ project and carries out the digital conversion (correction/restoration) of previously constructed public works with usage restrictions to open them in high quality. Over the past 10 years since 2014, KCISA has discovered and opened more than 50,000 public works, including high-resolution videos and photos of Jeju Volcanic Island and Lava Tubes, designated as a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site, local traditional sound sources, and traditional food manufacturing videos. This year, through a demand institution review, three organizations?the Chungnam Culture and Tourism Foundation, Jeju Film and Culture Industry Promotion Agency, and Cultural Heritage Administration?were selected to participate in this project.
