Ulleungdo Jukdo, Colored by Yellow Canola Flowers
The Largest Islet Jukdo ... First Bloom of Canola Flowers
Jukdo, the largest subsidiary island of Ulleung-gun, Gyeongbuk, located on the easternmost island of Korea, is currently in full bloom with yellow canola flowers as of early April, creating a spectacular sight.
The 3,250㎡ (984 pyeong) wave of canola flowers forms a beautiful combination with the ridges and sea of Ulleungdo, creating a unique landscape.
The 'Jukdo Canola Flower Cultivation Project' promoted by the county started in 2002 and was carried out annually but was suspended due to the impact of COVID-19. Last fall, canola seeds were sown, and the flowers successfully bloomed.
Jukdo is the largest of the 44 subsidiary islands of Ulleungdo and is called Jukdo (竹do) because of its abundance of bamboo, with vertical cliffs on all sides creating a scenic view.
