Magnitude 6 Earthquake Off Fukushima Coast, Tremors Felt in Tokyo
The Japan Meteorological Agency announced that an earthquake with a magnitude of 6 occurred off the coast of Fukushima Prefecture, Japan, at 12:16 on the 4th.
According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, the estimated focal depth is 40 km, and there is no tsunami warning related to this earthquake.
This earthquake caused shaking of up to seismic intensity 4 in the northeastern Honshu region, including Fukushima Prefecture, Iwate Prefecture, and Miyagi Prefecture. Seismic intensity 4 means most people are startled, and ceiling-hung lights shake significantly.
The seismic intensity scale used by the Japan Meteorological Agency is a relative concept that indicates the degree of shaking felt by people and objects in the affected area, unlike magnitude, which represents the absolute strength of the earthquake.
In Tokyo, shaking of seismic intensity 2, where most people indoors can feel the vibration, was recorded due to this earthquake.
