Lee Jae-myung Visits Dongjak-gu for the 5th Time... "Please Just 151 Seats"

5th Visit to Dongjak-gu Eul... Focused on Countering Na Kyung-won
Intended to Revive 'Regime Judgment' and Defend the 'Weak Link'
Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, sequentially visited the Seoul Dongjak-gu Eul and Dongjak-gu Gap districts, considered battlegrounds in this general election, to provide focused support for candidates Ryu Sam-young and Kim Byung-gi.
On the afternoon of the 28th, Lee visited Namseongyeok Alley Market in Sadang-dong, Dongjak-gu, Seoul, then boarded Ryu Sam-young’s campaign vehicle in Dongjak-gu Eul, saying, "If Candidate Ryu wins, the Democratic Party will secure 151 seats." He continued, "Those in power must use their power for the people, but if they abuse power for personal gain, the people must hold them accountable." He urged, "Please hold them accountable and hand over 151 seats to the Democratic Party." He also said, "Please send Candidate Ryu to the National Assembly," adding, "If Ryu wins, Dongjak-gu, Seoul, Korea, and the people will all win."

Lee also reiterated the pledge made on the 24th to provide 'nationwide livelihood recovery support payments' and emphasized its effects. He said, "We propose investing just 13 trillion won to provide 250,000 won per person and 1 million won per household in local currency to stimulate economic recovery, but the government and ruling party oppose it, fearing inflation." He added, "Although prices might rise slightly, the effect of partially compensating the income of the majority struggling to make a living, revitalizing local businesses, and boosting the economy is much greater. Then why does the president travel nationwide promising 1,000 trillion won?"
Immediately after visiting Candidate Ryu, Lee moved to Sangdo-dong, Dongjak-gu, to support Kim Byung-gi, the candidate for Dongjak-gu Gap. During his support speech, the campaign vehicle of Jang Jin-young, the People Power Party candidate, passed in front of Lee. Lee remarked, "They seem so desperate that they have to play their campaign jingle even in a place like this; let's wait until they pass," but also said, "Seeing their lack of decency, I call it shamelessness." Furthermore, he asked, "Now that I see it, if our Candidate Kim is in Yeouido, I think he has the qualities to be a useful tool for the people, not shameless. What do you think?"

In this way, Lee regards Dongjak-gu as a key area in this general election, visiting both districts on the first official day of campaigning. In particular, Dongjak-gu Eul has been visited five times, showing active support for Candidate Ryu, who is competing against Na Kyung-won, a four-term veteran and People Power Party candidate. Ryu, recruited by Lee, has a record of opposing President Yoon Suk-yeol’s establishment of the police bureau in 2022, giving him an image of 'regime judgment.' After Lee’s remarks that day, Ryu took the stage and raised his voice, saying, "I warn the Yoon regime," and "Repent, the day of judgment is near."

One reason Lee frequently visits Dongjak-gu Eul is that the area has a strong 'ruling party preference' phenomenon. Since 1996, when former lawmaker Yoo Yong-tae was elected as a candidate of the then-ruling New Korea Party, the ruling party candidate has won all eight elections in this district. Additionally, considering that the Han River belt’s political trends influence Seoul’s overall flow, there is analysis that Lee sees this 'weak link' as a place that must be actively defended.
