Asan City Promotes 'Solitary Death Prevention' Through Rental Business Operators
Notice Included for Identifying Housing-Vulnerable Households When Reporting Lease Contracts
As part of a specialized project to prevent solitary deaths, Asan City in Chungnam is promoting the "Identification of Housing-Vulnerable Households through Rental Business Operators."
This project was established to encourage proactive measures toward landlords, as the 2022 "Research on the Actual Condition of Solitary Death Prevention" announced by the Ministry of Health and Welfare revealed that landlords ranked second after siblings as the first discoverers (reporters) of solitary deaths.
The city plans to promote the project by including informational leaflets on identifying housing-vulnerable households when rental business operators report lease contracts, deregister housing locations, or register their businesses, aiming to actively identify individuals such as single-person households who are behind on monthly rent and utility payments, and those living in small rooms or guesthouses.
An official from Asan City stated, "The increase in the proportion of single-person households leads to a lack of communication and information," adding, "We will strive to raise awareness of welfare services in the community so that residents of housing-vulnerable households receive more attention before their situations worsen."
