[One Day Walk] Crossing Yeoninsan... Gapyeong Course 19
15km from Boagigol to Yongchu Valley
Course 19 of the Gyeonggi Dullegil Trail is a 15km path that stretches from Boagwigol to Yongchu Valley. It takes 6 hours to complete and requires crossing Yeonin Mountain, which stands at 1068m.
The journey begins at Boagwigol, a mountain village encountered before ascending Yeonin Mountain. Although there is little farmland, the flower beds carefully tended by the residents herald the arrival of spring. From Boagwigol to the summit of Yeonin Mountain, hikers must overcome an altitude difference of 800m.
Although this section is very challenging, the reward is special. Upon reaching the summit, a sense of accomplishment is accompanied by a breathtaking panoramic view. To the north lies Myeongji Mountain, and to the south is Kalbong Mountain. Above all, Yeonin Mountain is known as the Azalea Mountain. In spring, azaleas bloom beautifully and brightly in clusters. The scenery in early May, when the azaleas are in full bloom, is especially stunning. The azaleas, which are much taller than a person and have a soft pink color that is neither too vivid nor too plain, adorn the mountain summit.
Seeing the azaleas makes one reconsider the name Yeonin Mountain. Although it is a high mountain over 1000m, it was once an unnamed peak. Feeling sorry for this, people decided to give it a name, and in March 1999, the Gapyeong County Naming Committee named it ‘Yeonin Mountain.’ The name was borrowed from the unfulfilled love story of ‘Gilsu and Sojeong,’ which was passed down in the village of Nahpumajigi at the foot of Yeonin Mountain.

The water flowing down the southern slope of Yeonin Mountain leads to Yongchu Valley. Water from the northern slope of Kalbong Mountain also gathers in this valley. It is a pristine valley about 10km long, said to be embroidered with picturesque scenery of nine bends as a dragon soars into the sky. It is well known for nine scenic spots: Yongchu Waterfall, Waryongchu, Musongam, Takryeongnoe, Gosiltan, Ilsadae, Chuwoldam, Cheongpungyeop, Guiyuyon, and Nongwankye.
