Minister Lee Jong-ho of the Ministry of Science and ICT visited LG Science Park in Gangseo-gu, Seoul, on the afternoon of the 12th to tour LG Chem's new drug research facilities.

This site is developing new drugs using artificial intelligence.
Minister Lee said, "The convergence of bio and digital technologies is leading rapid and drastic technological and social changes, so much so that it can be called a major turning point for bio." He added, "We will gather the wisdom of experts from industry, academia, and research to jointly solve the tasks ahead of us, such as research innovation, fostering specialized talent, technology commercialization, and regulatory improvement."
The government established the 'Digital Bio Innovation Strategy' in December 2022, and in June last year, the 4th Basic Plan for Biotechnology Promotion also designated 'Bio Innovation through Digital Convergence' as a core task.

In addition to Minister Lee, the meeting was attended by Hwang Pan-sik, Director of Basic and Fundamental Research Policy at the Ministry of Science and ICT; Lee Jong-gu, Vice President of LG Chem; Lee Hee-bong, Head of Life Sciences R&D Division at LG Chem; Lee Young-mi, Vice President of Yuhan Corporation; Oh Kyung-seok, Research Fellow at Daewoong Pharmaceutical; Lee Sang-yeop, Vice President of Research at Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST); Park Woong-yang, Professor at Sungkyunkwan University; Yoon Tae-young, Professor at Seoul National University; Kim Jang-sung, President of Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology; and Park Soo-jun, Head of Digital Bio Medical Research Division at Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute, among other experts from industry, academia, and research.
