The Democratic Party's Strategic Nomination Management Committee on the 23rd strategically nominated Ahn Gwi-ryeong, deputy spokesperson of the Democratic Party, for the Dobong-gu Gap electoral district in Seoul; Yoo Dong-cheol, professor of social welfare at Dong-Eui University, for Suyeong-gu in Busan; and Yang Seung-jo, former governor of Chungcheongnam-do, for Hongseong-gun and Yesan-gun in Chungnam.
Ahn Gyu-baek, chairman of the Democratic Party's Strategic Nomination Committee, said in a briefing that "strategic nominations were decided for three locations." Chairman Ahn added, "Especially regarding former Governor Yang's candidacy, I am grateful. The Yesan-gun and Hongseong-gun area in Chungnam is a difficult region where the Democratic Party has never won since the 14th National Assembly, but former Governor Yang stepped forward with a spirit of putting the party before himself. I believe he serves as a role model for all comrades preparing for the 22nd general election."
Chairman Ahn stated that primaries will be held in Daejeon Seo-gu Gap (Lee Yong-su, Jang Jong-tae, Lee Ji-hye, with no runoff), Chungnam Cheonan-si Eul (Kim Mi-hwa, Lee Kyu-hee, Lee Jae-gwan, with no runoff), and Jeonbuk Jeonju-si Eul (Kim Yoon-tae, Yang Kyung-sook, Lee Deok-chun, Lee Sung-yoon, Choi Hyung-jae, with a final runoff between the top two). These areas will conduct 100% public primaries.
The Seodaemun-gu Gap electoral district in Seoul has been designated as a youth strategic special zone. Accordingly, candidates under the age of 45 are eligible to apply. Chairman Ahn said, "I believe that young people here will bring new dreams and courage to energize this election," and added that the procedures and methods will be discussed later.
There was no separate announcement regarding the highly anticipated Jung-gu Seongdong-gu Gap electoral district in Seoul. When reporters asked about this, Chairman Ahn responded, "I think it will be done promptly in the near future."
