Hyundai Mobis "Gathering Industry-Academia-Research Capabilities for K-Electrification Business Model"
Hyundai Mobis Holds the 1st Electrification Technology Forum
Domestic experts in automotive electrification from industry, academia, and research institutes gathered in one place to discuss the future of next-generation electrification technology. They agreed to join forces to build a technology cooperation ecosystem and create a 'K-Electrification Business Model.'
On the 21st, Hyundai Mobis announced that it held the 'Electrification Technology Forum' the previous day at its Electrification Research Center in Uiwang, Gyeonggi Province. About 230 people attended the event, including representatives from over 10 universities and research institutions such as Seoul National University, Hanyang University, and the Korea Automotive Technology Institute, as well as more than 30 companies related to electrification technology. This was Hyundai Mobis's first large-scale technology forum in the electrification field.
Participants shared ideas on newly unveiled technologies such as next-generation drive systems, in-wheel system control logic, and wireless battery management systems (BMS). They also conducted sectional seminars by dividing the core electrification fields into 15 areas, including battery systems, drive systems, and power conversion systems.
Through this event, Hyundai Mobis aims to establish a technology cooperation ecosystem in the vehicle electrification sector. Academia and industry will exchange personnel, technology, and knowledge to reduce research and development time and costs while efficiently utilizing resources. They also expect to secure opportunities to discover and recruit talented individuals through industry-academia-research collaboration.
Hyundai Mobis plans to hold such joint industry-academia-research forums regularly every year. This is a key strategy for Hyundai Mobis, which is transforming its business structure to focus on electrification.
In fact, early last year, Hyundai Mobis announced its goal of becoming an integrated 'Mobility Platform Provider' combining hardware and software, and has been transforming its business structure accordingly. To this end, it established an Electrification Research Center in Uiwang, Gyeonggi Province last year, consolidating previously dispersed research and development (R&D) capabilities in the electrification field to strengthen its competitiveness in the electrification business. Last year, Hyundai Mobis's electrification business sales exceeded 12 trillion won for the first time in history.
