"Go Outside to Smoke" Man Charges with Hammer After Being Stopped from Smoking Indoors
A man who caused a disturbance to an employee trying to stop him from smoking indoors was subdued by police officers.
On the 26th, the National Police Agency introduced an incident that occurred on December 24th last year at a welfare facility in Gyeonggi-do on its official YouTube channel under the title "I said I will smoke! Recklessly threatening with a weapon."
In the video, the man was sitting on a chair inside the facility smoking a cigarette around 11:30 PM. When an employee told him, "Please go outside to smoke," the man took out a hammer and charged at him.
The startled employee called 112, and when the police arrived, the man again grabbed the hammer and ran toward the entrance door. The police closed the door and confronted him, saying, "Drop the hammer."

The police maintained a standoff with the man through the entrance door and subdued him when he let his guard down. One officer grabbed the man from behind and brought him down, while three other officers joined in to restrain him. The Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency promised, "We will take the lead to ensure the safe daily lives of citizens."
