He visited domestic factories producing small crossovers and sport utility vehicles (SUVs), which are key to future strategies, and ordered thorough quality control.
On the 26th, Korea GM announced that Gerald Johnson, GM's Executive Vice President of Global Manufacturing, visited GM's Bupyeong and Changwon plants on the 24th and 25th.
Johnson was the first among GM's overseas operations this year to visit a Korea GM plant. This move is explained as emphasizing the importance of the Korean operation producing GM's core small crossover and SUV models.
Johnson visited the Bupyeong plant in Incheon on the 24th and the Changwon plant on the 25th consecutively. He closely examined the facilities and technologies aimed at maintaining the highest quality and improving productivity of Chevrolet's 'Trailblazer' and 'Trax Crossover.' At the Bupyeong plant, he toured the latest equipment installed to prevent worker injuries and enhance competitiveness in the assembly process.
Currently, the Bupyeong plant produces the Trailblazer (including derivative models) and derivative models of the Trax Crossover. The Changwon plant recently invested 900 billion KRW to apply GM's latest technologies, including automation of key processes. Last year, a total of 204,910 Trax Crossovers were supplied to international markets.
