Changwon Coast Guard Special Inspection Team Prevents Substandard Food and Illegal Distribution
Focused Crackdown on Smuggling, Origin Falsification, and Hoarding
The Changwon Maritime Police Station in Gyeongnam will conduct a special inspection on crimes infringing on people's livelihood for 26 days from the 22nd of this month to February 16.
Changwon Maritime Police announced that they have formed and are operating a special inspection team to secure safe food and establish market distribution order ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday.
The special inspection team, consisting of four foreign affairs police officers from Changwon Maritime Police, plans to carry out crackdowns by establishing an organic cooperation system with related organizations such as local governments and the National Fisheries Products Quality Management Service.
During this period, the focus will be on cracking down on ▲ smuggling and distribution of agricultural, livestock, and marine products ▲ mislabeling of origin ▲ market distribution order disruption caused by hoarding such as stockpiling ▲ sale of food subject to disposal such as expired products.
In order to alleviate public anxiety about Japanese seafood, which has increased since the discharge of contaminated water from the Fukushima nuclear power plant into the ocean, and to secure a safe distribution order of imported agricultural and marine products, special attention will be paid to checking the origin labeling of imported food at famous fish markets, large supermarkets, and traditional markets.
A Changwon Maritime Police official explained, “False labeling of origin is punishable by imprisonment of up to seven years or a fine of up to 100 million won, and failure to label the origin results in a fine ranging from a minimum of 50,000 won to a maximum of 10 million won.”
