Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju, Receives 'Prime Minister's Commendation' for Promoting Bicycle Use
Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, announced on the 9th that it was selected as an excellent institution in the 'Government Award for Promoting Bicycle Use' hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and received the Prime Minister's Institutional Commendation.
This evaluation was conducted based on four criteria: expansion of bicycle use facilities, promotion of use and safety culture, interest of the head of the institution (organization), and best practices.
The district was recognized for its best practices, including establishing a bicycle use promotion plan reflecting regional characteristics and expanding the 'Safe Bicycle Insurance' to alleviate the financial and psychological burdens on citizens caused by the increasing number of bicycle accidents each year.
Last year, the district doubled the coverage amounts for diagnosis lump sum payments and injury hospitalization consolation payments under the existing Safe Bicycle Insurance and extended the insurance coverage to include PM (Personal Mobility Devices).
In addition, bicycle tire air pumps were installed mainly at subway stations, neighborhood administrative welfare centers, and riverside areas, and the creation of bicycle rest areas was promoted to enhance the convenience of bicycle users.
