"Deceptive Operation" North Korea Provocation... JCS Refutes as "Low-Level Psychological Warfare Against South"
North Korea's Kim Yo-jong "Detonated Explosives 60 Times, Monitoring Response"
South Korea Joint Chiefs "Stern Warning, Immediate Halt Demanded"
North Korea claimed on the 6th that it conducted a deception operation by detonating explosives mimicking artillery fire in the northwestern island area, and alleged that our military was deceived. In response, our military rebutted, saying it was "a low-level psychological warfare against South Korea."
Kim Yo-jong, Deputy Director of the Workers' Party, said in a statement released by the Korean Central News Agency on the 7th, "Our military detonated blasting explosives simulating the sound of 130mm coastal artillery fire 60 times while monitoring the reactions of the gangster group of the South Korean military."
She added, "We conducted the deception operation to expose the gangster group's actual detection capabilities, which are full of bluff and bravado, and to shame those who would make absurd claims as obvious as seeing fire."
Deputy Director Kim explained, "They misjudged the sound of the explosives as artillery fire, made baseless assumptions about artillery provocations, and shamelessly fabricated lies that the impact points fell in the maritime buffer zone north of the Northern Limit Line in the West Sea."
She further stated, "Our military did not fire a single artillery shell in the area," and criticized, "The gangster group of the South Korean military bit the bait we threw at them."
Deputy Director Kim warned, "Our military's trigger is already disengaged from the safety lock," and threatened, "If even a minor provocation occurs, our military will immediately unleash a barrage of fire."
On the same day, the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) issued a statement saying, "Our military intelligence authorities are closely monitoring North Korea's military activities," and added, "Kim Yo-jong's statement is merely a low-level psychological warfare against South Korea questioning our detection capabilities."
They continued, "We sternly warn North Korea against its military activities that escalate tensions in the contact area and strongly urge an immediate halt. If North Korea provokes our territory and people, we will overwhelmingly respond according to the 'immediate, strong, and decisive' principle so that they never dare to provoke again."
