Six traditional markets in Suwon-si, Gyeonggi-do, will receive national funding to promote revitalization projects.
Previously, the Ministry of SMEs and Startups selected Buk Suwon Market and Janganmun Geobuk Market as targets for the 'Cultural Tourism Market Development Project,' Jeongja Market and Nammun Rodeo Market for the 'Digital Traditional Market Development Project,' and Janganmun Geobuk Market, Motgol General Market, Buk Suwon Market, and Hwaseo Market for the 'Market Management Package Support' project.
The Cultural Tourism Market Development Project is a program that links the resources possessed by the market with the region's history, culture, and tourism resources to create themed tourist markets where shopping and cultural experiences are possible, reflecting local characteristics. Up to 1 billion KRW (50% national funding and 50% city funding) is supported per market.
The Digital Traditional Market Development Project is a digital infrastructure establishment project for traditional markets to enter the online market, including ▲organization formation ▲capacity building ▲product discovery, listing, and marketing ▲delivery infrastructure construction. Up to 400 million KRW (50% national funding and 50% city funding) is supported per market. The Market Management Package Support project provides support for labor costs of delivery personnel for online markets.

A Suwon city official stated, "Traditional markets have actively responded to rapid changes in the distribution environment, such as the increase in online shopping and the expansion of large retail stores, and Suwon city has continuously promoted traditional market revitalization support projects to strengthen their self-sustainability." He added, "Through the traditional market and shopping district revitalization support projects, we will strive to establish Suwon's traditional markets as differentiated markets compared to other traditional markets."
