"60-Year-Old Sentenced to 30 Years for Killing Village Chief Who Helped Him, Saying 'He Ignored Me'"
A man in his 60s was sentenced to prison for stabbing and killing the village chief of a neighboring town multiple times with a weapon because he felt ignored by him.
The Criminal Division 1 of the Masan Branch of Changwon District Court in Gyeongnam sentenced Mr. A, who was tried on charges of murder, to 30 years in prison on the 20th.
Mr. A is accused of stabbing a woman in her 50s, Ms. B, with a weapon at her residence in Daesari, Daesan-myeon, Haman-gun, at around 8:35 a.m. on July 18, causing her death.
It was revealed that Mr. A engaged in inappropriate behavior such as suddenly hugging Ms. B or entering her yard without permission, and when Ms. B avoided him, he thought he was being ignored and committed the crime.
Ms. B, as the village chief, was known to have shown goodwill by preparing side dishes for Mr. A’s son, whom he raised alone, and helping him receive public assistance.
On the day of the incident, after an argument with Ms. B, Mr. A took a weapon from his residence and went to Ms. B’s house to commit the crime.
Immediately after the crime, he fled to a nearby mountain, but surrendered after about two hours as heavy rain fell and the police tightened their cordon.
Ms. B, who was stabbed multiple times in the abdomen and chest, died while receiving treatment at the hospital.
The court stated, “The wounds left on the victim’s body indicate how brutal the crime was and how desperately the victim resisted to survive,” and added, “The crime against Ms. B, who showed goodwill, is even more reprehensible as it is an inhumane act.”

It continued, “There is no sign of remorse as the defendant has not made any effort to heal the victim and the bereaved family’s pain and instead shifts the responsibility onto Ms. B,” and explained the sentencing by saying, “Considering the bereaved family’s demand for severe punishment and the defendant’s history of multiple punishments for violent crimes, a heavy sentence is appropriate.”
