The CHEERUPS project is a win-win activity started by Lotte Duty Free in 2018 to help small business owners facing difficulties and contribute to revitalizing local commercial districts. So far, restaurants located in representative tourist destinations in South Korea such as Myeongdong in Seoul and Incheon have been selected to receive marketing consulting and rebranding support, including replacing outdated facilities and fixtures. This year, a business agreement was signed with Busan Metropolitan City and the Busan Economic Promotion Agency in July, and 15 small business owners who have operated stores in Busan for more than 10 years were selected to undergo renewal for about five months.
To enhance the convenience of foreign tourists visiting Busan, digital transformation was focused on, including the production of digital multilingual menus. Live shows using online and offline channels and social media (SNS) marketing were carried out, resulting in a 110% increase in the average monthly visits on Naver Place. In addition, 15 university student supporters called 'Cheer Love' from the Busan area were selected and matched one-on-one with a small business owner to carry out online marketing such as creating SNS content.
Won Seong-hwan, the small business owner of Dada Udon who participated in CHEERUPS 3rd term, said, "During the customized consulting process, the number of customers visiting the store noticeably increased, resulting in a sales increase effect." He added, "Especially, the digital transformation and the production of multilingual menus were very helpful in responding to foreign tourists."
