The targeted dormitories are the four most aged buildings: Nanum Hall and Gungdong Apartments on the Daejeon campus, and Sojeongsa and Pajeongsa on the Seoul campus. Nanum Hall, a student dormitory completed in 1989, was closed due to its outdated facilities. Gungdong Apartments, a married student dormitory completed in 1993, had been partially repaired but remained inconvenient due to aging facilities. Sojeongsa and Pajeongsa on the Seoul campus were completed in 1972 and 1975 respectively, and both required remodeling.
KAIST decided to name all remodeled dormitories after Chairman Lee’s pen name, "Ujeong," as "Ujeong Nanum Research Building (tentative)," "Ujeong Gungdong Apartments (tentative)," "Ujeong Sojeongsa (tentative)," and "Ujeong Pajeongsa (tentative)."
