In April, the district received positive feedback for being the first autonomous district in Seoul to install yellow crosswalks at seven school routes of Yonggok Elementary School. The installation of "yellow crosswalks" was later mandated in July following the revision of the Road Traffic Act Enforcement Rules. The "yellow crosswalk" applies a yellow color to crosswalks within school zones, making it easier for drivers to recognize and increasing caution to help prevent traffic accidents.
Gwangjin-gu additionally installed yellow crosswalks in areas within school zones with high pedestrian and vehicle traffic and high risk of traffic accidents, focusing on major school routes of 10 elementary schools including Gunan Elementary School, Shinyang Elementary School, and Junggwang Elementary School. So far, 81 out of a total of 275 crosswalks within school zones have been installed, with plans to complete the installation by next year.
Furthermore, yellow protective fences are being erected within school zones to secure visibility and sightlines for both drivers and pedestrians, reducing potential hazards. Safety is ensured with a total length of 3,854 meters of protective fences along school routes of nine schools including Yonggok Elementary School, Dongja Elementary School, and Yangjin Elementary School.
