Mayor Lee Gang-deok of Pohang City issued an urgent directive to thoroughly re-examine citizen safety and facility inspections in relation to the earthquake that occurred early on the 30th in Gyeongju.

Mayor Lee expressed his condolences, saying, “Many citizens are still suffering from trauma as the painful wounds of the earthquake have not yet healed, and I understand that many were worried once again by the earthquake alert that sounded early in the morning.”
The city plans to continue monitoring the situation closely, as many citizens are still traumatized by the past Pohang earthquake, and will re-examine roles according to the crisis management manual to ensure thorough preparedness for all possible situations.
Mayor Lee emphasized, “The Pohang earthquake was scientifically identified as an induced earthquake and this was reaffirmed by court rulings. Pohang City prioritizes citizen safety above all else in any natural disaster such as earthquakes and is making thorough preparations. We ask all citizens to pay special attention to safety and report any disaster damage to administrative offices.”
