Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) university student mentor group is visiting schools to help teenagers with their career concerns.
The ‘Gwangjin University Student Mentor Group’ consists of 70 students currently enrolled in universities and graduate schools located in Seoul, who have a good understanding of the local educational environment and characteristics. They serve as guides for middle and high school students in their career and academic advancement.
In July, to ensure a strong start and support for the mentor group, an inauguration ceremony was held along with capacity-building training to fully prepare them before their visits.
From September to early December, the mentor group is conducting ‘Visiting Major Explanation Sessions’ for schools that applied among middle and high schools. They shared various experiences such as career and academic advancement cases, study tips, and self-management methods, introduced the universities and departments they are currently attending, and had time to discuss concerns.
This year, 3,818 students participated from 11 schools including Gwangnam High School, Konkuk University Attached Middle School, and Shinyang Middle School.
Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “I hope this time of sharing diverse information about careers and dreams through the sincere experiences of seniors will be meaningful,” and added, “We will expand opportunities for career exploration that inform youth about various paths.”
