Sweet potatoes grown in Gochang, Jeollabuk-do, are cultivated in healthy yellow soil fields and exposed to sea breezes, resulting in firmer flesh, a yellow color, and higher sweetness compared to regular sweet potatoes. The annual production volume of Gochang sweet potatoes reaches approximately 19 million tons.
In April, BGF Retail, which operates CU, signed a business agreement with Jeollabuk-do to expand sales channels for excellent local agricultural products. Accordingly, CU has purchased 420 tons of Gochang sweet potatoes to date and sold them as instant roasted sweet potatoes. This amount accounts for about 22% of the annual production of sweet potatoes in Gochang-gun, and it is expected that an additional 30 tons of Gochang sweet potatoes will be consumed through this new sweet potato ready meal series.
The newly launched Gochang sweet potato ready meals are released in three types: lunchbox, gimbap, and sandwich, made using diced sweet potatoes and sweet potato mousse from freshly harvested Gochang sweet potatoes. The Cheese Dakgalbi & Sweet Potato Rice Set Lunchbox consists of rice topped with large sweet potato dices and dakgalbi topped with mozzarella cheese, creating a hearty meal with a sweet and salty flavor. The Sweet Potato Cheese Pork Cutlet Gimbap targets consumers’ tastes with a combination of sweet sweet potato mousse, thick pork cutlet, and string cheese. The Sweet Sweet Delicious Sweet Potato Sandwich is a soft sandwich made with fluffy bread spread with white cream and filled generously with sweet sweet potato mousse for a smooth taste.
