On the 22nd, the Kumho Cultural Foundation announced the 2024 season lineup for the Kumho Art Hall's planned performance series "Beautiful Thursday," revealing this news. Kim Junhyung is a performer who gained international recognition in the music world by winning the runner-up prize in the piano category at last year's Munich ARD International Music Competition.
This year's resident musician series will present four performances under the theme of "Short Stories," featuring diverse narratives. On January 11th, at the New Year's concert, Kim Junhyung will perform works by Bach, Beethoven, and Brahms, beginning his journey as the resident musician. Then, on May 9th, the second performance titled "Short Stories: In the Beautiful May" will feature pianist Yukine Kuroki. The August 22nd performance, "Short Stories: A Walk in the Scenery," will see flutist Kim Yubin and cellist Moon Taeguk join the stage, and on November 14th, "Short Stories: Toward the Bell" will be the final resident musician performance, where Kim will weave together Liszt's short pieces like a short story.
Through the "Kumho Exclusive" series and the "International Masters" series, audiences can also enjoy performances by renowned international musicians visiting Korea. Pianist Eliso Virsaladze will meet domestic audiences in May with a program featuring Schubert, Brahms, Liszt, and Prokofiev. Pianists Paul Lewis, Vadim Kolodenko, Stephen Hough, and Nelson Goerner will also take the stage at Kumho Art Hall.
The "Kumho Rising Star" series will showcase emerging talents in K-classical music. Violinist Jung Nuri, trombonist Seo Juhyun, and guitarist Ahn Yongheon will perform. Baritone Kim Taehan, winner of the 2023 Queen Elizabeth Competition, will hold a concert in July.
In the "Kumho Artist Series," cellist Bae Ji-hye and violinist Kim Kyehee, who won last year's Tchaikovsky International Music Competition, are scheduled to perform.
The Kumho Cultural Foundation's historical instrument support program, "Kumho Instrument Bank," will also present performances by its beneficiaries. Violinists Yoo Dayoon, Park Gyumin, Kim Donghyun, and cellists Jung Woochan and Lee Subin will showcase the charm of historical instruments.
In the "Genealogy of Music" series, violinist Kim Hyunmi, pianists Joo Heesung and Kim Youngho, and cellist Park Sangmin will perform diverse programs. Pianist Moon Jiyoung will offer the charm of German music to audiences three times in March, June, and December.
In the "Space Series," pianists Kim Kyuyun, Son Jungbum, Kim Honggi, and Yoon Hongcheon will perform the diverse beauty of the piano, while violinists Lim Jiyoung, Jo Jinju, and Lee Jiyoon will convey the profound allure of violin melodies to audiences through the "The Violinists" series.
