Festival for Over 6,000 Hearing-Impaired in Seongnam Area, 'Sueo Culture Festival,' Held on 25th

View original imageSeongnam City in Gyeonggi Province will hold the "7th Sign Language Culture Festival" at the Bundang Yatap Youth Center Performance Hall on the 25th.
The event is hosted by the Seongnam Branch of the Korea Deaf Association Gyeonggi-do Chapter to raise understanding and awareness of hearing and speech disabilities, supported by Seongnam City, with about 300 participants including people with and without disabilities.
The event features eight teams composed of 60 members from Seongnam City's sign language clubs performing a sign language culture festival show that "speaks with hands and listens with eyes."
Key performances include ▲ Nabi Team's "I am a Butterfly" ▲ Hearing-impaired seniors' "My Love Like Starlight" ▲ Gruteogi Team's "Three Bears" ▲ Jang In-su's "Wind Path" ▲ Beautiful Sign Language Ladies Group's "Heart" ▲ Falling for Sign Language Team's "Like Like" ▲ Taepyeong Sungdae-hage Sign Reading Team's "What's Wrong with My Age" ▲ Tomorrow is Clear Team's "Story of a Deaf Wife," among others.
Additionally, sign language artist Lim Young-su will give a congratulatory performance titled "Family Photo" to promote Korean sign language culture, and the mayor of Seongnam will present commendations to two individuals who have contributed to the welfare of people with disabilities.
Mayor Shin Sang-jin of Seongnam stated, "We will support the operation of the sign language interpretation center so that people with hearing and speech disabilities are socially respected and can communicate comfortably, and implement customized welfare policies such as assigning sign language interpreters at major Seongnam city events."
As of the end of September this year, there are 6,612 people with hearing and speech disabilities in Seongnam, accounting for 18.4% of the total 35,945 people with disabilities.

Since 2002, Seongnam City has operated a sign language interpretation center on the 3rd floor of Jeil Plaza in Sujin-dong, Sujeong-gu, providing support in various fields such as legal, education, medical, and employment for people with hearing and speech disabilities.
