Renault Korea "5 Trillion Won Investment Over 23 Years... Korean Plant as Global Production Hub"
Renault Korea Motors introduced its continuous domestic investment achievements and unveiled a blueprint to transform its Busan plant into a global production hub. Starting next year, Renault Korea will accelerate the transition to eco-friendly vehicles with an electrification strategy that includes the latest hybrid technology.
Stephan Deblaise, President of Renault Korea, announced these plans on the 7th at the 'Invest Korea Summit 2023' held at BEXCO in Busan. Hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and organized by KOTRA, the event took place in Busan Metropolitan City, a candidate city for the 2030 World Expo and Renault Korea’s production base.
President Deblaise stated, "Korea’s excellent industry and human infrastructure are the foundation of foreign investment," highlighting the company’s investment and export achievements in Korea. Over the past 23 years, Renault Korea has invested a cumulative 5 trillion won in Korea. The Busan plant, which produces Renault’s mid-size sport utility vehicle (SUV) QM6 and compact SUV XM3, has achieved a cumulative production of 3.7 million units.

At the event, President Deblaise also presented Renault Korea’s future mobility vision as a "technology-based automobile company." Renault Korea has been strengthening its vehicle software research and development capabilities based on digital trends. Through this, it has introduced innovative solutions such as the simple payment system "In-Car Payment," which enables ordering, payment, and product pickup within the vehicle, and the real-time maintenance reservation service "Fast Track Reservation."
Additionally, Renault Korea plans to convert its existing internal combustion engine production lines into eco-friendly vehicle lines, including hybrids, and to enhance win-win cooperation with local companies.
Now in his second year as president, Deblaise, leveraging his engineering background, has contributed to making the Busan plant a global production hub for the Renault Group. He has supported new vehicle development at Renault Korea, two consecutive years of labor-management negotiations without disputes, and strengthened communication with employees. Last year, he also facilitated the first visit to Korea by Luca de Meo, Chairman of the Renault Group. Through these efforts, he has helped strengthen Renault Korea’s role in the Renault Group’s future vehicle roadmap. As a result, the Busan plant is leading the development and production of the Renault Group’s high-end mid-size and near-large segment vehicles.
