O Shin-hwan: "Whether Not Running or Running in a Difficult District, the Public Knows Who It Is Directed At"
Interview with Innovation Committee Member at CBS
"It Shouldn't End with Empty Talk... Decision and Sacrifice Are Needed"
Oh Shin-hwan, a member of the People Power Party's Innovation Committee, stated regarding the committee's demand for the party leadership, senior members, and close aides of the president to either not run in next year's general election or to run in challenging constituencies in the Seoul metropolitan area, "It does not mean that all of them must declare that they will not run or will run in difficult districts."
However, he added, "When those who have vested interests or certain positions within the party make more bold decisions, the magnitude of their sacrifice will appear greater to the public."

To impress the public again, a desperate mindset and sacrifice must follow, or else (the Innovation Committee's efforts) could end up as mere rhetoric."
Regarding criticism that the Innovation Committee's targets for not running or running in difficult Seoul metropolitan constituencies were unclear, Oh said, "I believe the public can understand who these demands are directed at." He added, "Since this is a request, if we specifically point to certain individuals and say 'You cannot run,' it would rather diminish the impact. I think it has more destructive power not to specify."

He explained, "If everyone were to declare that they will not run, it would be strategically difficult to manage in the general election. In the past, the sacrifice of senior members did not involve all senior members or those with a certain number of terms declaring they would not run. However, the public is asking for symbolic and sacrificial actions."
