Nationwide Crackdown on Fraudulent Distribution of Local Love Gift Certificates in the Second Half of the Year
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced on the 6th that it will conduct a "2023 Second Half Nationwide Crackdown on the Illegal Distribution of Local Love Gift Certificates" from the 13th to the 27th.
In this illegal distribution crackdown, first, systematic preparations such as forming joint public-private inspection teams and strengthening inspection capacity training will be made to enhance the effectiveness of on-site inspections of illegal distribution. In particular, operating agencies of local governments will receive focused training on the methods of cracking down on illegal distribution using the 'Abnormal Transaction Detection System,' which serves as the foundation for illegal distribution inspections.
Additionally, the crackdown will focus on vulnerable types of illegal distribution to increase the effectiveness of the inspections, and management of the inspection process and results will be strengthened.
Along with this, cases of illegal distribution confirmed during the crackdown period will be subject to administrative and financial sanctions such as cancellation of merchant registration, imposition of fines, and recovery of unjust profits according to relevant laws and violations. Furthermore, in cases of serious violations such as large-scale illegal distribution detected during the crackdown, the police will be requested to investigate and strictly punish the offenders.

Choi Byung-kwan, Director of the Local Finance and Economy Office, stated, “For Local Love Gift Certificates to be effectively used to support local small business owners, illegal distribution must be eradicated.” He added, “The Ministry of the Interior and Safety will continue to actively monitor illegal distribution based on an organic inspection system between local governments and operating agencies, and will respond strictly to any occurrence of illegal distribution to ensure that cases of abusing Local Love Gift Certificates for unfair profits are eliminated.”
