Imsil-gun Opens Bakery Cafe 'Imsil Changgo 1964'

On the 24th, Imsil-gun, Jeonbuk, announced that it held the opening ceremony of the Jeonbuk-style Sunshine-filled Rural Regeneration Project ‘Imsil Warehouse 1964’ in the Seonggari area of Imsil-eup.

The opening ceremony, attended by Sim Min, the head of Imsil-gun, Lee Seongjae, chairman of the Imsil-gun Council, along with officials and residents, was conducted simply with guest congratulatory speeches, a ribbon-cutting ceremony, progress reports, and commemorative performances.

Imsil Warehouse was selected in 2019 through a public contest for the Jeonbuk-style Sunshine-filled Rural Regeneration Project. The existing 140-pyeong grain warehouse was remodeled into a bakery cafe startup space and completed last month.

The name ‘Imsil Warehouse 1964,’ which gives meaning to the year 1964 when Father Ji Jeonghwan first came to Imsil, embodies the idea of a warehouse that stores only the unique and good things of Imsil. It also honors the noble spirit of Father Ji Jeonghwan, the father of Imsil cheese, and aims to carry on his spirit and philosophy.

The Imsil Samsam O O Youth Sunshine Cooperative, which operates this place, established the cooperative after completing continuous capacity-building program training to discover new business models in the region.

This cooperative continues efforts to discover various foods and entertainment using local resources.

In particular, the cafe’s main products, ‘Togul Bread’ and ‘Gouda Cheese Latte,’ have received the most favorable reviews.

Togul Bread holds greater significance as it is inspired by the cave (togul) that the late Father Ji Jeonghwan made to store cheese.

Jung Yujin, director of the Imsil Samsam O O Youth Sunshine Cooperative, said, “At Imsil Warehouse 1964, we will store only the unique and good things of Imsil and honor the noble spirit of Father Ji Jeonghwan. We will make it a source of pride for local residents, convey the depth of Imsil cheese history, and establish it as a space of resonance and communication.”

Starting with this opening ceremony, Imsil Warehouse 1964 will operate daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Governor Sim Min said, “I hope Imsil Warehouse 1964, created as a unique space in Imsil, will become a place where residents freely communicate and a venue for greater harmony. It will play a significant role in promoting the noble spirit and sacrifice of Father Ji Jeonghwan and the excellence of Imsil cheese.”
