Consumer Inquiries for Overseas Travel in September Increase by Approximately 1.8 Times Compared to the Same Month Last Year
The Korea Consumer Agency announced on the 20th that inquiries about overseas travel at the 1372 Consumer Counseling Center increased by about 1.8 times compared to the same period last year.
As a result of analyzing consumer consultations received at the 1372 Consumer Counseling Center using the consumer big data analysis system by the Consumer Agency and the Korea Consumer Organization Council, the number of consultations at the 1372 Consumer Counseling Center last month was recorded at 38,036 cases. Among these, compared to September last year, consultations regarding 'overseas travel' increased by 78.1%, ranking first in growth rate. Many consultations involved travel agencies demanding excessive penalties when canceling overseas travel contracts. Consultations related to 'apartments' also increased by 52.8% compared to the same period last year, with many inquiries about defect compensation for newly built apartments and cancellation of apartment sales contracts.
The most frequent consultation items in September were related to 'health clubs' (1,135 cases), followed by 'mobile phone services' (846 cases) and 'air passenger transport services' (584 cases). Regarding health clubs, there were many inquiries about excessive penalty demands and refund refusals upon early termination. Mobile phone service consultations mainly involved refusal to cancel activation and contract non-fulfillment. For 'air passenger transport services,' many consumer consultations concerned compensation for flight delays and cancellations.

The Consumer Agency advised, "When signing a contract, carefully check contract terms such as penalties, and be sure to include any verbal promises in the contract and keep a copy to reduce damage." They also urged, "After signing the contract, keep evidence such as business information and payment details."
