At around 10:05 a.m., Nam appeared wearing a black suit and said to the press, "I sincerely apologize for causing social controversy. I have voluntarily entered a drug rehabilitation facility and am reflecting deeply every day. I will take responsibility and do everything I can to prevent drug use." About 13 minutes later, Seo also appeared and stated, "I am recovering (from drug addiction) and hope that no one else experiences something similar. I will accept the punishment and sincerely participate in the trial and the remaining process."
Nam and Seo’s lawyers acknowledged the charges of drug use to the court. However, Seo’s side requested a pre-sentencing investigation. A pre-sentencing investigation is a system in which, at the court’s request, the defendant’s personality, upbringing, motive for the crime, and victim recovery status are investigated before sentencing to be considered in determining the sentence.
Nam and Seo are accused of jointly using methamphetamine at Seo’s residence in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, in August of last year. Seo posted revealing messages on her social media, such as "Nam Taehyun methamphetamine use" and "There are syringes in the company cabinet." Netizens who saw these posts reported them to the police.
