Seongnam City Designates 545 New No-Smoking Areas
Seongnam City in Gyeonggi Province will designate additional no-smoking areas.
On the 13th, Seongnam City announced that it plans to designate a total of 545 new no-smoking areas within the city, including village bus stops, taxi stands, and riverside walkways.
The new designation of no-smoking areas is a measure following the partial amendment of the ordinance on the designation of no-smoking areas and prevention of secondhand smoke damage in August. It will take effect on February 7, 2024. Accordingly, the number of no-smoking areas in Seongnam City will increase from 26,644 to 27,103.
The additional no-smoking areas include ▲459 bus stops with signboards and village bus stops ▲75 taxi stands ▲11 riverside walkways. These areas correspond to within 10 meters of village bus stops and taxi stands, designated streets and specialized streets for citizens' health promotion, and walkways in river zones according to the River Act.
Since enacting the "Ordinance on the Designation of No-Smoking Areas in Seongnam City" in January 2013, Seongnam City has been gradually expanding the designation of no-smoking areas and conducting continuous guidance and inspections to establish a no-smoking culture.
Additionally, to support smokers in quitting, the city operates a no-smoking clinic at the public health center year-round, a weekly night no-smoking clinic for office workers, and a mobile no-smoking clinic that visits workplaces. Those who succeed in quitting smoking for six months are also given a small commemorative gift.
