CJ CheilJedang 'Spam', Cumulative Sales Surpass 1.9 Billion Units

Established as 'Premium Canned Ham' through Rigorous Quality Control

CJ CheilJedang announced on the 26th that its steady-selling holiday gift, 'Spam,' surpassed a cumulative sales volume of 1.9 billion units (based on 200g equivalent) as of last year.
This means that each Korean consumed about 40 cans of Spam. The cumulative sales volume is expected to exceed 2.1 billion units by the end of this year. Since starting domestic production in 1987, Spam has maintained the industry's number one position for over 30 years. Its differentiated taste and quality are the driving forces behind this success.
Spam is characterized by its rich flavor and umami, with a pork content exceeding 90%. Through CJ CheilJedang's strict and meticulous quality control?including selecting the best raw materials, hygiene management, and reducing saltiness to suit Korean tastes?Spam has established itself as a nationally beloved 'premium canned ham.'
Reflecting consumer needs, various products have also been introduced. In July 2020, CJ CheilJedang launched 'Spam 25% Light' in line with the low-sodium trend. This product contains more than 25% less sodium per 100g compared to the average of the top three canned ham products in market share.
Last year, the company released 'Spam Gimbap Ham' for the first time. This product was developed to enhance convenience by responding to consumer requests for Spam suitable for gimbap. Since Chuseok 2020, CJ CheilJedang has also introduced Spam gift sets without the yellow plastic cap, a first in the industry.
