Gumi-si, 140 New Public Officials 'Ready to Start Public Service'
Public Service Adaptation Training for Newly Appointed Officials Scheduled This Year
Sharing Core Municipal Values and Key Policies, Cultivating Basic Competencies of Public Servants
Gumi City in Gyeongbuk Province will conduct pre-employment public service adaptation training for 140 successful candidates of the 2023 Local Government Public Official Open Competitive Recruitment Examination over three days starting from the 20th.
This onboarding education is designed to help new employees quickly adapt to the organization and prevent early turnover among the increasing MZ generation.
Onboarding education refers to the process of guiding and training new employees in the knowledge and skills necessary for their work to help them smoothly adapt to the organization. The term comes from the English phrase meaning "to board a ship," symbolizing helping new employees who are boarding the organizational ship for the first time become skilled crew members (organization members).
The public service adaptation training course includes ▲understanding the core values and major policies of city administration ▲team building and workplace manners education to establish a foundation for communication and collaboration within the workplace ▲field visits to key city administration sites that share Gumi’s past, present, and future, such as the birthplace of President Park, the Historical Archives, the first site of Silla Buddhism, the National Industrial Complex 5, the Environmental Resource Facility, and Brown Hands ▲production of a Gumi vision video ▲establishing public officials’ values and presenting personal visions.
In addition to the basic training, a first communication session between Mayor Kim Jang-ho and the new public officials was arranged. Mayor Kim also presented cards and welcome kits containing congratulations and expectations for the new public officials’ start in public service.
Mayor Kim urged the new public officials to “become key talents in the re-creation of Gumi City by pouring fresh ideas and new passion” and promised, “We will spare no support to ensure smooth adaptation to public service even after appointment.”
The city produced and provided the ‘My Gumi Public Service Adaptation Practical Guidebook,’ which contains essential basic information by field necessary for public service life. The practical guidebook includes contents such as city administration directions and general status, organizational guidance, integrity, service, welfare, personnel, education systems, accounting practices, and document and press release writing to help new public officials effectively adapt to the organization.
