Korea Customs Service's Chuseok 'Special Support Measures' Including Supply Support for Seasonal Goods
The Korea Customs Service will provide special support around the Chuseok holiday to assist with the supply and demand of seasonal products.
On the 11th, the Korea Customs Service announced that through the implementation of special support measures, it will assist with the expedited customs clearance of seasonal products and reduce the financial burden on import-export companies.
The special support measures include expedited customs clearance and timely shipment of export cargo for Chuseok seasonal products such as agricultural, livestock, and fishery products, urgent raw and subsidiary materials, and overseas direct purchase express items, as well as prompt customs refunds and disclosure of import prices for agricultural, livestock, and fishery products.
Special customs clearance support for seasonal and other import-export cargo will be provided for three weeks from the 18th of this month to the 3rd of next month.
First, the Korea Customs Service will establish and operate a ‘24-hour Special Customs Clearance Support Team’ to ensure that seasonal products and urgent raw and subsidiary materials are smoothly supplied domestically without customs clearance delays at 34 customs offices nationwide, regardless of holidays and nighttime.
Additionally, when companies request an extension of the shipment period for export cargo, the request will be processed immediately to prevent fines for non-shipment within the designated period.
Generally, export cargo must be shipped within 30 days after export declaration acceptance. If shipment is not made within the specified period, fines are imposed. However, during the special support period, if companies request an extension of the shipment period, the Korea Customs Service will actively accommodate such requests to prevent any disadvantages.
Furthermore, in preparation for the concentrated import of overseas direct purchase items during the Chuseok holiday, the Korea Customs Service plans to organize and operate a ‘Special Express Cargo Customs Clearance Support Team’ and an ‘Emergency Standby Team’ at customs offices such as Incheon and Pyeongtaek to assist with the expedited customs clearance of overseas direct purchase items.
Special customs refund support will be provided from the 14th to the 27th of this month to reduce the financial burden on export companies.
During this period, export companies applying for refunds will, in principle, receive the refund on the same day. However, applications received after the bank’s closing time (4 p.m.) will be processed with extended working hours (from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.) to ensure that refunds are completed by the next morning.
Refund reviews will be conducted after the holiday (from October 4th), and the submission of documents for refund reviews will be simplified.
