Support Household Targets Expanded, Increasing by About 10,000 Households
The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family will increase the budget for the childcare service support by approximately 113.3 billion KRW starting next year. In particular, households with two or more children will receive an additional 10% support on their out-of-pocket expenses.
On the 11th, the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family announced through a press release that the 2024 budget for childcare service support will be significantly expanded. This is an increase of about 113.3 billion KRW from 354.6 billion KRW this year to 467.9 billion KRW.
The childcare service is a program where childcare providers visit homes to provide care services for children aged 12 and under. Currently, the service usage amount is supported differently based on the income criteria of the user households.
Starting next year, the Ministry plans to reduce the childcare cost burden for multi-child households by providing an additional 10% support on out-of-pocket expenses for households with two or more children.
The government support rate for households receiving childcare service will also be increased. For children aged 0 to 5, households with income below 150% of the median income will see the support rate rise from 15% to 20%, and for children aged 6 to 12 with income below 120% of the median income, the support rate will increase from 20% to 30%. For single-parent households or parents under 24 years old with income below 150% of the median income who are raising children under 1 year old, 90% of the service usage cost will be supported regardless of income criteria.
As a result, the number of households eligible for childcare service support is expected to increase from 85,000 to 110,000.
Additionally, the activity allowance for childcare providers will be increased by 5% compared to this year to improve their working conditions.
