Gochang-gun, Decides Appropriate Labor Wages for Rural Workforce
Gochang-gun, Jeonbuk announced on the 5th that it held the ‘2023 Rural Workforce Wage Deliberation Committee’ on the 4th at the second-floor situation room of the county office and decided on appropriate wages.
The agreed wages were set at a lower limit of 110,000 KRW to an upper limit of 130,000 KRW for men, and a lower limit of 90,000 KRW to an upper limit of 110,000 KRW for women.
The members of the ‘Rural Workforce Wage Deliberation Committee’ consisted of various experts with knowledge and experience in the agricultural sector who could assist in wage determination, including Chairman Noh Hyung-su, Deputy Governor of Gochang-gun, members of the Gochang-gun Council’s Industry and Construction Committee, representatives from paid employment agencies located in the county, agricultural stakeholders, and labor and wage experts.
The committee conducted in-depth discussions on methods for setting appropriate wages for rural workers, considering average wages for rural laborers, and determining the appropriate wage range.
Through heated debates aimed at stabilizing the livelihoods of local farmers and improving the quality of labor, the committee decided on appropriate wages.
On the 1st of last month, the county promulgated and enforced an ordinance regarding the ‘Operation of Appropriate Wages for Rural Workforce.’ According to the ordinance, paid employment agencies located in the county and farmers employing workers must strive to comply with the appropriate wages suggested by the deliberation committee.
The county may reward agencies that faithfully comply with the appropriate wages and perform exemplary paid employment services, and farmers who adhere well to the appropriate wages may receive additional points when selected for various agricultural projects.
County Governor Shim Deok-seop said, “I hope that by everyone in the county working together to comply with appropriate wages, Gochang-gun will become a model case for other regions,” and added, “We will do our best to create a rural environment where everyone can live well.”
