Rainbow Robotics is the first company in Korea to develop a bipedal walking robot and possesses competitive domestic technology for key components used in robotic arms. Samsung Welstory plans to develop additional robotic arms optimized for meal preparation and introduce them to catering sites based on this agreement with Rainbow Robotics. In addition to cooking robots, they will also support usability evaluations and new robot testing for service-type robots (serving and guide robots).
Earlier in May, Samsung Welstory became the first in the industry to introduce a specialized cooking robot corner called 'Wellybot' at its headquarters cafeteria in Bundang-gu, Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi Province. It is a cooking robot dedicated to soups, stews, and jjigae menus. According to the company, it can uniformly adjust the amount of broth, heating time, and temperature according to the menu provided on the day, helping to prevent accidents such as burns that may occur while heating the broth and reducing the burden on workers who have to repeatedly move heavy bowls like earthenware pots.
The company has determined that this also partially addresses the labor shortage issue in the food and beverage service industry and plans to introduce additional cooking robots tailored to various menu types such as fried, noodle, and stir-fried dishes and the characteristics of each cooking process to catering sites. By the end of this year, they also plan to open a flagship space at their headquarters where customers can experience various cooking robots and automation solutions developed in partnership with other companies.
