Gyeonggi-do to Collect 245 Billion KRW in Local Tax Arrears in the Second Half of the Year
Gyeonggi Province will push for the settlement of local tax arrears amounting to 245 billion KRW from next month 1st until the end of November.
Accordingly, in September, Gyeonggi Province will encourage voluntary payment through promotion of payment methods and intensive collection activities, and sending arrears notification letters, while preparing in advance by conducting various property inquiries and data extraction for seizure of defaulters' assets.
Then, through intensive collection activities in October and November, administrative sanctions such as restrictions on licensed businesses and requests for travel bans will be strengthened, and arrears will be focused on settlement through seizure and public auction of real estate and vehicles, seizure of insurance and wages, and confiscation of vehicle license plates.
In particular, various collection techniques will be used to settle arrears, including house searches and seizure of movable property for high-value and habitual defaulters, seizure and public auction of mutual aid association investment securities for defaulters holding construction-related licenses, comprehensive settlement of arrears related to trust property, and new collection methods for tracking hidden assets.
Gyeonggi Province settled 362.5 billion KRW in arrears in the first half of this year. In the second half, it plans to settle 245 billion KRW, aiming for a total annual arrears settlement of 607.5 billion KRW.
Ryu Young-yong, Director of the Tax Justice Division, stated, "We will actively encourage voluntary payment of arrears to avoid financial disadvantages from seizure actions, and do our best to settle arrears through strong collection activities against willful defaulters."

Meanwhile, Gyeonggi Province is also actively implementing support for vulnerable groups to stabilize livelihoods, such as linking welfare services including emergency living expenses support for livelihood-type defaulters identified through the arrears management team’s survey, actively suspending collection for those impossible to collect from, and promoting registration of unknown residence.
