Gwangju Nam-gu Provides Socially Vulnerable SOS Zone in Civil Service Office
Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, has established a Socially Vulnerable SOS Zone for disabled and elderly residents in the district, providing customized civil service using smart devices.
The operation of the Socially Vulnerable SOS Zone is a follow-up policy project introduced as part of civil service innovation after ranking first nationwide in the government-led National Happiness Civil Service Office evaluation last year.
On the 30th, Nam-gu announced that the Socially Vulnerable SOS Zone is a space for residents who require social consideration, such as the disabled and elderly, and it has been set up in front of the comprehensive civil service desk on the first floor of the Nam-gu Office building.
Through the SOS Zone, users can have real-time conversations using eyes, ears, and language while viewing the screen, with a significant expansion of various convenience facilities including a written conversation monitor, voice guidance devices, and sign language videos.
This is to ensure that socially vulnerable groups such as the disabled and elderly with reduced hearing and vision functions do not experience communication difficulties when visiting the civil service office.
In particular, to provide more systematic communication services for people with visual, hearing, and speech disabilities, a written conversation monitor capable of real-time communication was purchased, allowing civil service staff and visitors to engage in immediate two-way communication and provide the necessary services to visitors as quickly as possible.
The written conversation monitor is a device that converts the voice left by the civil service staff on a tablet into text displayed on the monitor, enabling conversations tailored to the customer's level using both voice and text.
Additionally, voice guidance devices have been installed at the comprehensive civil service office and the first-floor restroom entrances to help disabled individuals move easily and safely upon entering the district office.
Furthermore, new desks adjusted to the height of wheelchairs for the disabled have been installed, and to provide convenience for hearing and speech-impaired individuals, sign language videos containing civil service information have been produced and are broadcast through the district office elevator TV monitors and smart comprehensive guide screens.
