Seongsan Fire Station, "Be Careful of Bee Stings During Outdoor Activities"
Seongsan Fire Station in Changwon Special City, Gyeongnam, urged special caution to prevent bee sting accidents during outdoor activities in the summer.
According to the Fire Agency, the average number of bee sting accidents in the past three years (2020?2021) increased 3.3 times from 367 cases in June to 1,224 cases in July, with 78.8% concentrated between July and September, requiring special attention.
Bees show greater aggression toward dark-colored clothing and strong perfumes or scented cosmetics, so it is advisable to wear clothes and wide-brimmed hats during outdoor activities and avoid strong perfumes or scented cosmetics.
Also, if you find a beehive, lower your posture and slowly move to another place, and if you come into contact with bees, cover your head area and quickly move at least 20 meters away.
If stung by a bee, quickly remove the visible stinger using a card or similar object, disinfect or wash the stung area with clean water to prevent infection, and apply a cold pack such as an ice bag. However, if symptoms such as difficulty breathing or cyanosis indicating shock appear, immediately call 119 and seek hospital treatment.
