Kim Joo-hyung and Im Sung-jae are taking a breather on their ‘moving day’.
On the 12th (local time), the two players each reduced their score by one stroke in the third round of the FedEx St. Jude Championship (total prize money $20 million), the first event of the FedEx Cup Playoffs (PO) on the PGA Tour, held at TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tennessee (par 70, 7,243 yards). They are tied for 6th place (9-under 201). Lucas Glover leads (14-under 196), followed by Taylor Moore (both from the USA) in 2nd place (13-under 197), and Tommy Fleetwood (England) in 3rd place (12-under 198).

View original imageThis tournament features only the top 70 players from the regular season’s final event, the Wyndham Championship. There is no cut-off, and the winner’s prize is $3.6 million. Next up are the PO second event, the BMW Championship (17th?20th), with only 50 players, and the final event, the Tour Championship (24th?27th), with only 30 players. Kim Joo-hyung, ranked 14th in the FedEx Cup standings, recorded two birdies and one bogey, while Im Sung-jae, ranked 32nd, made three birdies and two bogeys. Although they are five strokes behind the leader, they are well positioned to aim for a comeback victory.
Glover posted a 4-under round to take the top spot on the leaderboard. He is a veteran who secured his fifth career win in two years at last week’s Wyndham Championship, the final regular-season event, his first since the John Deere Classic in July 2021. Before this tournament, Glover was ranked 112th in the FedEx Cup standings, making it difficult to qualify for the PO, but he secured his ticket dramatically. Jordan Spieth (USA) is tied for 4th place (11-under 199), and Rory McIlroy (Northern Ireland), ranked 3rd in the FedEx Cup, is tied for 6th.
