Pearl Abyss Reports Q2 Revenue of 78.4 Billion KRW... Operating Loss of 14.1 Billion KRW
Pearl Abyss recorded an operating loss in the second quarter.
Pearl Abyss announced on the 10th that it posted sales of 78.4 billion KRW, an operating loss of 14.1 billion KRW, and a net loss of 4.4 billion KRW in the second quarter of this year. Sales decreased by 16.6% compared to the same period last year, and operating profit turned to a loss.
Pearl Abyss explained that the operating loss was due to a one-time expense reflecting increased advertising and promotional costs as well as incentives including employee stock bonuses.
The proportion of overseas sales in the second quarter accounted for 79%, increasing by 2 percentage points compared to the previous quarter. By platform, sales were 79% PC, 16% mobile, and 5% console.
'Black Desert' released the global version of the new region 'Land of Morning' in the second quarter and received a comprehensive Metascore of 81, earning praise as content on the scale of a new title. The 'Black Desert Festa' held in July has continued to boost users not only domestically but also globally. The July DAU (daily active users) increased by 65% compared to the previous quarter, with domestic users up 151% and North America and Europe up 74%.
Pearl Abyss plans to strengthen live services for the 'Black Desert' and 'EVE' IPs in the third quarter and will reveal new information about the new title 'Red Desert' at the global game show 'Gamescom 2023' held in Germany in August.
