Starbucks Win-Win Beverage 'Uri Ssuk Grain Latte' Surpasses 50,000 Cups Sold
Starbucks Korea announced on the 2nd that the sales of ‘Uri Ssuk Grain Latte,’ a ‘Senior Win-Win Beverage’ developed and supported to revitalize local cafes staffed by senior baristas, have surpassed 50,000 cups.
Last year, Starbucks, in collaboration with the Korea Senior Club Association, developed a senior win-win beverage for local cafes staffed by senior baristas and introduced the Uri Ssuk Grain Latte, made with domestically grown mugwort and grains, to about 150 cafes operated by member organizations of the Korea Senior Club Association starting in October.
The Uri Ssuk Grain Latte is a beverage made using domestic mugwort and roasted grains, offering a savory taste and nutritional benefits. It contains no caffeine, making it enjoyable and accessible for people of all ages and genders without any burden.
During development, the Starbucks beverage team simplified the manufacturing process into two steps: first, measuring the raw ingredients, and second, mixing with milk to finish, considering the convenience and efficiency for senior baristas. At the beverage preparation demonstration held alongside the delivery ceremony, senior baristas gave positive feedback on both the taste and the preparation method.
Starbucks not only provided raw materials but also shared the win-win beverage preparation method with the senior cafes selling the drink. Additionally, Starbucks supplied all necessary equipment for beverage preparation, including shakers and measuring spoons, along with the raw materials for the Uri Ssuk Grain Latte, to all senior cafes involved in sales.
Through a demand survey conducted by the Korea Senior Club Association, a total of 150 locations were selected, and 35,000 cups were sold out by the end of last year. Starting from June this year, raw materials for 36,000 cups were delivered to 130 cafes staffed by senior baristas in the second phase, continuing sales.

Kim Ji-young, head of Starbucks’ Social Contribution Team, said, “We hope that senior baristas will utilize the knowledge and experience gained from training at the Win-Win Education Center when they return to their local cafes, and we expect that the Uri Ssuk Grain Latte will contribute to creating senior jobs and supporting the operation of cafes staffed by senior baristas.”
