Two Additional Members Appointed to Dongdaemun-gu Ombudsman
New Appointment of ‘Dongdaemun-gu Ombudsman’
On August 1, two new ombudsmen were appointed to mediate and resolve grievances related to district administration
Expected to protect residents' rights and enhance administrative trust through fair and objective judgment
Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) held a ceremony to present appointment letters to two newly appointed ombudsmen and held a meeting on the 1st.
The ‘Ombudsman’ is an administrative control system developed in Nordic countries such as Sweden, serving as a civil complaint investigator who protects citizens from unjust exercise of public authority by investigating necessary matters within a certain scope of authority, urging correction, and safeguarding citizens' fundamental rights.
The district established the ‘Ordinance on the Formation and Operation of the Dongdaemun-gu Ombudsman in Seoul’ and has been operating the ‘Dongdaemun-gu Ombudsman’ since 2017 to handle grievance complaints and improve systems related to Dongdaemun-gu and its affiliated institutions.
The ‘Dongdaemun-gu Ombudsman’ contributes to enhancing transparency across district administration by expressing opinions and recommending corrections on rights infringement complaints related to illegal, unfair, or passive administrative actions and unreasonable systems, as well as conducting adoption investigations and mediating collective complaints on matters recognized independently by the ombudsman.
Including the two newly appointed members, the ‘Dongdaemun-gu Ombudsman,’ which will operate with a total of three members from the second half of this year, consists of experts who have worked for a certain period in fields such as administration and architecture, and will serve to represent residents' rights during their four-year term.
Residents wishing to seek assistance from the ombudsman can apply through the Dongdaemun-gu website’s ‘Ombudsman Complaint Application’ section, visit the ombudsman office on the 8th floor of the district office, or apply by mail. For detailed information regarding complaint processing procedures and ombudsman operations, inquiries can be made to the Audit Officer.
