Yang Hyang-ja: "Kim Eun-kyung Must Step Down Immediately... Reminds of Past 'Elderly Disparagement' Remarks"
Kim Eun-kyung, Chair of the Innovation Committee of the Democratic Party of Korea, sparked controversy over "elderly disparagement" after saying at a roundtable, "Why should people with shorter futures vote one-on-one?" Yang Hyang-ja, a lawmaker leading the new party 'Hope of Korea,' criticized her, saying, "It would be better for Chair Kim to step down from that position."
On the 1st, Yang said on her social media (SNS), "Those who wish for the Democratic Party to remain in difficulty are probably secretly cheering for Chair Kim to hold onto her position for a long time."
Earlier, at a roundtable with young people in their 20s and 30s, Chair Kim introduced her son's opinion, saying, "From one's own age to the remaining lifespan, and from a mother's age to the remaining lifespan, voting should be proportional," adding, "Isn't that quite reasonable?" She then mentioned, "In democratic countries, 'one person, one vote' is a practical difficulty but a correct principle," and sparked controversy by saying, "Why should people with shorter futures vote one-on-one?"
In response, Yang said, "Chair Kim's remarks remind us of past disparaging comments about the elderly made by key figures in the Democratic Party," adding, "Interestingly, those figures who disparaged people over 60 are still actively making political statements well beyond that age."

Yang stated, "We hope that the Democratic Party, as the largest party in the National Assembly, will quickly find its footing, so we believe Chair Kim's resignation is desirable,” and “Seeing how she dismissed legitimate concerns about her worrisome remarks as ‘old-fashioned framing and typical divide-and-conquer tactics’ makes me think Chair Kim has adapted well to the Democratic Party,” she pointed out.
