On the 1st, Gangseo-gu, Seoul, announced that Choi Jeong-sun (75), a recipient of basic livelihood security, recently visited the Banghwa 3-dong Community Service Center and handed over an envelope containing 140 bills of 50,000 won each, asking for it to be used to assist those affected by the heavy rain damage.
Choi is known to have a severe respiratory disability but has saved her livelihood benefits over several years to raise 7 million won in donations.
Choi said, “I saw news that the heavy rain damage was severe in my hometown in the Gyeongbuk region and other areas. I live alone and don’t need much money, and since the government provides rice and the welfare center gives me meals, it’s not a large amount, but please use it to help those affected by the heavy rain damage,” as she handed over the envelope.
A Gangseo-gu official said, “We are grateful to Elder Choi, who practiced love for neighbors in more difficult circumstances despite her own modest living conditions. We hope her warm heart reaches those going through tough times due to the flood damage.”
Recently, Kim Su-jin (85), also a recipient of basic livelihood security, donated 5 million won collected from livelihood benefits and recycling bottle deposits to neighbors affected by the heavy rain damage, creating a heartwarming atmosphere in the local community.
