Domestic Water Play and Hotel Stays Plummet Compared to Last Year
A survey revealed that 3 out of 4 people in their 20s are planning a summer vacation this year. In particular, the number of respondents planning to travel abroad has significantly increased as we enter the endemic phase and face the first summer vacation since then.

View original imageOn the 25th, Alba Heaven, a job and part-time job portal, announced the results of a survey on summer vacation plans conducted among 662 people in their 20s.
According to the survey, 76.6% of respondents said they have summer vacation plans. Among the same age group, the percentage of those planning a vacation was highest among ▲university students (81.2%), followed by ▲office workers (74.6%) and ▲job seekers (69.1%).
As COVID-19 entered the endemic phase, changes appeared in the types of summer vacations. Last year, domestic travel accounted for most types, including ▲'water play' such as domestic beaches and valleys (37.9%), ▲'pencance' at domestic pensions and pool villas (19.8%), and ▲'hokance' at domestic premium hotels and resorts (15.1%).
On the other hand, this year, 16.4% of respondents plan to travel abroad, a significant increase compared to last year (3.4%). Domestic 'water play' and 'hokance' accounted for 29.0% and 6.3%, respectively, showing a sharp decrease compared to last year. This result is analyzed to be due to the easing of entry restrictions in various countries around the world.
The average planned expenditure for summer vacation is 697,000 KRW, which is 105,000 KRW higher than last year (562,000 KRW). Among this, the average spending for domestic travel is 570,000 KRW, while for overseas travel, it is 1,357,000 KRW.
When asked how they plan to finance their summer vacation, responses included ▲existing part-time or job salary (44.4%, multiple answers allowed), ▲savings (32.3%), ▲allowance (29.8%), and ▲new short-term part-time jobs (26.2%).

Meanwhile, those who responded that they do not have summer vacation plans cited reasons such as ▲burden of vacation expenses due to rising prices (43.9%, multiple answers allowed), ▲difficulty adjusting work schedules at part-time jobs or workplaces (36.8%), and ▲wanting to focus on studies and job preparation (36.8%).
