On the 17th, the Ministry of Science and ICT announced that, together with the Korean Intellectual Property Office, it has completed and launched a technology commercialization platform based on the National Science and Technology Information Service (NTIS).

NTIS is a national R&D knowledge information portal that provides the public with information on projects, researchers, and outcomes related to national research and development initiatives. Through the establishment of this technology commercialization platform, it is expected that the service scope will expand to include the utilization of national R&D achievements.

Rather than merely providing technology briefs (SMK), the platform utilizes the national R&D information held by NTIS to allow users to view data from the planning stage to the execution stage of R&D projects leading to patented technologies, as well as information about the researchers and research institutions involved. It is designed to enable companies seeking to adopt technologies to verify them from multiple perspectives.

The technology commercialization platform will be applied for the first time at the ‘2023 Pan-Ministerial Public Technology Transfer and Commercialization Roadshow’ to be held at Yonsei University on the 12th of next month. Over 1,000 excellent public technologies selected by nine ministries will be introduced to the industry.

Choi Mijeong, Director of the Science and Technology Information Analysis Division at the Ministry of Science and ICT, stated, “With the establishment of this platform, it has become possible to track how R&D outcomes are utilized even after the completion of national R&D projects,” adding, “In the future, the accumulated data can be used to plan national R&D projects based on industry demand.”
